The Dong Experimental Theatre from Korea presented a new “The Inspector General” at the festival
An unusual interpretation of N. Gogol's The Inspector General was presented at the III Krasnoyarsk International Music Festival of the Asian-Pacific Region by the actors of the Theater DONG (Republic of Korea). On July, 1 a sold-out performance took place at the Krasnoyarsk State Theatre for Young Audiences.
The Inspector General is an experimental production of the theater DONG staged together with the Korean music groupBulsaechul (Republic of Korea). There are ten main scenes; each of them is unique and original in design, sound, dance, and music solution.
The actors of the theatre DONG showed their distinctive artistic style - "a movement which expresses the drama through the plastic art". The participants of the performance, accompanied by flute, guitar, tambourine and drums, every now and then replaced each other on the stage, demonstrating their incredible plasticity of the body.
The play of light, diverse sets and costumes, acrobatics, magic tricks, the synthesis of live sound and recorded tracks, and the subtitles in Russian attracted the attention of the audience to the stage.
The Gogol's world of corrupt officials has been brought up to the current realities by the idea of the stage director and texts of the actors. Interestingly, that the main character Khlestakov didn’t appeared on the stage, all addressed to him remarks were addressed to the public, creating an atmosphere of a lively dialogue with the audience.
We would like to note that The General Inspector of the TheaterDONG was awarded as The Best Play by the Korean Society of Theatre Critics in 2010 and 2011.
