Exhibition "Images of Genji -Monogatari" of the Japanese artist Hiroaki Miyayama opened in Krasnoyarsk
In the Krasnoyarsk Museum Center there opened an exhibition of etchings of one of Japan's leading contemporary graphic artists Hiroaki Miyayama. The exposition is the artistic response to the Japanese medieval novel «The Tale of Genji-monogatari». The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Culture of the region Tatyana Veselina.
The novel «The Tale of Genji-monogatari" which inspired the Japanese artist is almost unknown in Russia. But this work is considered the greatest creation of the Japanese and world classic literature. It tells about the realities of the Japanese Middle Ages and reveals characters of people of that time. Hiroaki Miyayama expressed it through symbols and images of the Japanese culture. He created a series of color etchings. There are 55 of them; it’s the number of chapters in the novel. Etchings are made filigree. Each was printed with 5-7 boards, and gold leaf or silver serve as a background.
What about artistic methods and techniques, Miyayama is certainly a modern artist. At the same time his works are an example of keeping and creative development of national traditions.
The song «Tsumugi uta» helped the audience to feel special atmosphere and aesthetics of Japanese culture at the opening ceremony. Aliona Rogova sang it in Japanese, putting on a traditional Japanese kimono.
